Capitularia - Edition of the Frankish Capitularies

Stemma for the collection of capitularies compiled by Ansegis

This stemma represents the collection of capitularies compiled by Ansegis. It is based on the introduction of Gerhard Schmitz to his MGH edition. It only shows the textual dependencies and does not indicate a strict chronological order for individual manuscripts. Compared to the detailed analysis by Schmitz, the graphic visualisation required some simplifications. In particular, no distinction is made between clear filiations and hypothetical dependencies. The stemma is intended to serve as a guide for a quick overview of the manuscript dissemination.

Characteristics of the manuscript groups:

A 4, 71-74 added shortly after 827 Ansegis
B1 827 Ansegis
B2 4, 71-74 partly added + capitularies of 829 shortly after 829 court of Louis the Pious
C1 Lothar deleted from the preface 4, 71-74 extant after 843 court of Charles the Bald
D Lothar deleted from the preface 4, 71-74 partly added + capitularies of 829 before 860 Reims
C2 Lothar deleted from the preface 4, 71-74 extant + collection of Benedictus Levita after 847 West Francia
