The project is preparing a new edition of the Frankish capitularies, a pivotal corpus of legal sources from the European Middle Ages. More details on the project can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The project is funded with an endowment of \u20ac 5.28m as part of the German Academies’ Programme<\/a>, the joint research programme of the German academies of sciences, which supports outstanding scientific long-term endeavours working on the exploration, preservation and critical analysis of globally intertwined cultural heritage. Specifically, it involves scholars unlocking fundamental sources of the Humanities and Social Sciences during a funding period of 12 to 25 years. The programme is jointly organised by the Academies of Sciences united in the Akademienunion<\/a> and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Supported by the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts<\/a>, the project will run for 16 years. Since its start in 2014, it is being directed by Karl Ubl<\/a>, professor of early and high medieval history at the University of Cologne.<\/p>\n

The edition is being prepared in close collaboration with the Monumenta Germaniae Historica (MGH<\/a>) and the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH<\/a>). In addition, we cooperate with the Carolingian Canon Law Project (CCL<\/a>) in Lexington (Kentucky) and the Computational Historical Semantics Project (CHS<\/a>) in Frankfurt\/Main.<\/p>\n
